Circular economy: repair, recycle, reuse

Today we want to talk about Circular Economy: but what is it really? Let’s see together.

“If we continue like this, we will need not only one planet, but three.” Jan Huitema.

The circular economy is a model of production and consumption that embodies:

  • sharing
  • loaning
  • reusing
  • repairing
  • Reconditioning
  • recycling of existing materials and products to ensure a longer life.

This method extends the life cycle of the products so that waste is reduced to a minimum.

Suffice it to say that 2.5 billion tonnes of waste are produced in the EU every year, won’t what we ask our planet be too much ?

Won’t it be too much the burden that our planet carries?

Why is it difficult to implement?

Because the principles of the circular economy contrast the traditional linear economic model, based on the scheme hitherto taught “extract, produce, use and throw”.

This model is feasible if you have the availability of large quantities of materials and energy easily available and at low prices, but we know that this is still not the case.

What are the benefits of the circular economy?

With waste prevention, ecodesign and the reuse of materials there would be economic savings and a total annual reduction in greenhouse gas emissions; the production of materials we use daily emits approximately 45% of CO2.

It also benefits from:

  • Reduction of environmental pressure
  • Security for the availability of raw materials
  • Increased competitiveness
  • Innovation and economic growth with a +0.5 of GDP
  • Increased employment – it is estimated that thanks to the Circular Economy in the next 7 years there will be an offer of 700,000 jobs.

So why not implement it?

Make a difference, use the three R’s: Repair, Recycle, Reuse
