Recyclable and recycled, two different meanings

Recyclable and recycled, words that sound similar, but do you know that they have profoundly different meanings?

A Recyclable material (indicated by the symbol) is the one that has the right characteristics to be sent towards the recycling chain:

  • That material can be easily differentiated by the consumer and processed by the recycling industry.
  • There are companies, like us at Sintek, that know how to use that recycled material for new processes.
  • The whole process is economically viable.

Recycled is instead a material that has been produced, totally or in part, starting from recycled raw material!

Let’s try to explain with a practical example!

A plastic bottle bearing the word PET is perfectly recyclable, therefore reusable to manufacture new bottles, but in turn it was instead manufactured from virgin raw material, in practice it comes from oil.

If instead you see written on that container rPet or that the container is recycled in a certain percentage, it means that that container was made from recycled raw material, meaning that it comes from other containers.
