How long does it take for an abandoned object to degrade in the environment ?

Every year tens of tons of waste, deliberately abandoned in the environment or simply poorly managed, end up in the seas or oceans. Have you ever wondered how long it takes for the most common objects to degrade ? The answer is not unambiguous and varies enormously from the material with which it is made, for example it takes:

2 months – a cardboard box

1-5 years – a cigarette butt

450 years – a plastic bottle or diaper

Indeterminate – a glass bottle

In the light of these data, it is even more evident how important it is to properly manage our waste, not only because it represents a direct danger to ecosystems and fauna for a time that can be very long, but also because when well managed they are a precious resource that we must learn to value.

At Sintek we deal daily with giving a second life to plastic that is properly recycled, creating value from what was previously just waste. It is our daily commitment, our mission and we need everyone’s commitment to carry it forward.
