In these times of energy crisis and high bills, public attention has focused heavily on ways to save energy and reduce energy costs.
What few people know is that recycling is a great way to save the country a LOT of energy!
According to the 2021* sustainability report by Corepla (National Consortium for the collection, recycling and recovery of plastic packaging) last year we saved in Italy, thanks to recycling, 520 tons of virgin plastics.
Savings obtained by replacing them with secondary raw material obtained from the recycling of packaging waste.
This leads to a saving of 10,867 GWh of primary energy obtained from fossil sources, equal to almost 2.5% of the national total, which avoided the emission of 879,000 tons of CO2 equivalent.
A really HUGE amount of energy saved if you think that it comes from the simple daily gesture of correctly sorting household waste. A very important saving in normal times but even more fundamental now.
